XRF Thick Material (3/4" or 1")

OK…. I am experiencing an issue that I have found work arounds for but there HAS to be a better way to handle. I have the XRF with the lens in bottom location. When I try to engrave either 3/4” or 1” thick material, I am running into an Z Limit issue when I auto focus. The work around, so far, is that I have to remove the tray, and luckily I have the base unit, and place on a lower position with additional material below the 3/4” or 1” thick item and then auto focus. However, this is trial and error as the auto focus can and has extended past its limits if I do not raise the material high enough to auto focus. NOT GOOD….. Again, I have found a way to work but surely I am not the only person trying to engrave 3/4” or 1”. Do I need to change to a different lens and adjust settings? Thanks for any advice.

Yes, processing thick materials, such as 3/4 inch and 1 inch, indeed requires removing the honeycomb bed and utilizing the machine’s base.

To facilitate this, you can use a 3-inch (or even larger) focus lens to extend the focal distance. This modification prevents the limit switch from being easily triggered during the autofocus function.

Thank you Yanice. So currently my 2 1/2” lens is placed at the bottom location. I have a 3” lens ready to go. Do I place the lens in TOP or Bottom and what about my change in settings regarding numbers? Do I need to adjust those numbers as well to calculate the new distance like I had to do on the 2 1/2” lens move?

The 3” lens can be installed in either the upper or lower position. We are unable to provide you with an exact adjustment value because there may be slight variances between different machines. The best approach is to use the Focus Test tool in LightBurn to accurately determine the optimal focal distance, and then update that value in your Machine Settings.
