Each laser type has its own “sweet spot,” so the best choice really depends on what materials you plan to work with most often:
CO₂ – The best all-rounder for non-metals like wood, acrylic, leather, paper, and glass. It gives smooth cuts and beautiful engraving depth. Perfect for makers, crafters, and sign shops.
Fiber – Designed for metals. It’s incredibly fast, precise, and virtually maintenance-free. Ideal if you’re marking stainless steel, aluminum, brass, or tools.
UV – A specialist for plastics, glass, and fine detail work. It has minimal heat impact, so it’s great for electronics, medical, or high-precision engraving — but usually more expensive.
If I could only choose one: I’d go with a CO₂ for its versatility. It’s the easiest to learn on and works with the widest range of materials.
