I was getting a lot of buildup on the cone, so I used the tool to swap my 2.5" lens for a 3" lens. I also updated the Z offset to 16.7, which solved the gunk issue.
Today, I did an alignment test everything looked good. But when setting up for a ramp test, I noticed that after auto-focusing, the bottom of the nozzle is sitting about 23mm above the material.
Is that normal? I’ve seen some users switch their Z offset from 16.7 to 23 after running a ramp test, so I’m a little confused.
Just a heads-up: your machine doesn’t automatically return to the 16.7 Z offset after each engraving. You’ll need to redo your auto focus manually every time.
For running a ramp test, unplug the Z-axis cable at the laser head, it’s the one with two green and two red wires. Once your ramp test is done, just plug it back in.
To make it easier to remember, you can set up a job checklist in LightBurn and add a reminder called “Auto Focus.” That way, every time you run a job, it’ll pop up and remind you to redo it.
