File looks fine in Lightburn, but misaligned on XRF with rotary

Hello guys!

I usually just hit “Start” in LightBurn and everything runs fine. I know some people have alignment issues, but I figured—if it works, don’t mess with it.

Now I’m trying to run a file and part of it is misaligned, even though it looks perfect on the screen. I’ve restarted both the machine and LightBurn, but no luck. I tried sending the file to the machine like many suggest, but now it’s acting weird—started off completely out of place, and then nothing happens.

Can someone walk me through the basic steps?
I’m using the machine’s built-in controller, an XRF, and a PiBurn V rotary.

Thanks a ton!

First, make sure your rotary is turned off at the switch and unplugged before doing anything. I’d recommend resetting your laser to start fresh.

Then, set up your rotary and make sure it’s aligned properly in the bed. Move the laser head around to double-check that everything is level and lined up how you want. Once that’s good, turn on the rotary switch and set your origin.

Now in LightBurn:

  • Import your design
  • Go into Rotary Settings and make sure rotary mode is enabled
  • In my case, I also check “Mirror Output” (or something similar) to reverse the image

Then, send the file to the laser, and hit Start on the machine.

If this was my first time, I’d wrap the tumbler completely in blue painter’s tape and run a quick test at 1000 speed / 10% power to check alignment and image orientation before doing the real run.

Hope that helps a bit!

how do I “send the file to the laser”? I tried clicking send and then looked in my laser controls and don’t see a “start” option. Only “process” and “delete” when I go to the “file” selection
