Do I need safety glasses when using the XRF?

Hi Guys!

I have an XRF, and the manual mentions wearing laser safety glasses during operation. Do I actually need them while running the laser, or is it safe to watch the engraving through the cover? Thanks for clarifying!

You’re completely fine looking through the cover. It’s designed to block harmful laser light, so there’s no safety concern.

I was wondering the same thing! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I’ve been watching mine run for about 15 minutes straight with no issues. If it wasn’t safe, I think I’d definitely feel it by now!

The laser classification for this machine is Class II. When the lid is closed, it effectively protects your eyes and skin.

However, a laser spot is still visible when the laser beam hits the material surface. Prolonged direct viewing of this light spot is not recommended.

Therefore, regardless of the power setting you are using on the XRF, please avoid staring directly at the light spot for extended periods.
