I recently received my XT machine and after setting it up I have been trying to cut some simple shapes from 3mm Baltic Birch plywood.
Regardless of the settings I can not cut through the material.
Even running the test pattern it still will not cut through even when at 5mm/second and 100% power. All I get is a lot of charred wood.
Once in a while I get beautiful thin cuts, but they’re just not quite all the way through. Increasing the power or decreasing the speed on the next try the cuts are much wider and cut less than 1mm deep and are about 1mm wide.
I do have a 2” lens, but what lens was the machine born with and how are they change?
Have you already replaced it with a 2” lens? If you are experiencing issues after switching to the 2” lens, the problem is likely related to the focal distance, as the factory setting is optimized for the 2.5” lens.
Please open LightBurn and use the Focus Test feature to determine the optimal focus distance for better processing results. Then, go into the Machine Settings to update the Focus Distance.
Remember to use the Autofocus function before every processing.
After changing to a different lens, you do not need to retest and adjust the scanning offset.
However, you absolutely must re-measure and set the correct focal distance (which can be determined using Focus Test on Lightburn). We also recommend running a Material Test on LightBurn to find the new optimal parameters for your frequently used materials.
We currently do not have a dedicated tutorial available. Thank you for this suggestion; we plan to release one in the future.
